monument
features
a
statue
by
George
Julian
Zolnay
of the
Confederate
boy
hero
,
Sam
Davis
. The
statue
dressed
in a
Confederate
uniform
is
seated
on a
rock
and
holding
his
rifle
in
one
hand
with its
butt
resting
on the
ground
. The
base
of the
monument
is
inscribed
thus
:
“Duty
Done
Honor
Won
1861-1865”
on
south
,
front
of
base
,
carved
into
stone
;
“To
the
Heroism
of the
Private
Confederate
Soldier,”
on
east
,
side
of
base
,
carved
into
stone
;
“Erected
1909
by,”
on
west
,
side
of
base
,
carved
into
stone
; with a
bronze
plaque
naming
it
was
built
by
Frank
Cheatham
BIVOUAC
#1
Association
of
Confederate
Soldiers
Camp
#35
,
United
Confederate
Veterans
,
Nashville
,
Tennessee.”
It
also
lists
the
names
of the
members
of the
Frank
Cheatham
Bivouac
. On the
north
side
,
back
of
base
,
carved
into
stone
is
the
quote
“Faithful
to the
End.”
