war

Williamson's
regiment
was
involved
in
scouting
and
raids
in
Missouri
and
Arkansas
and
saw
battle
in the
Middle
Tennessee
,
Chickamauga
, and
Atlanta
campaigns
. In this
letter
from
4
miles
from
Valley
Head
,
Alabama
,
Williamson
begins
by
expressing
his
impatience
at not
having
received
a
letter
from his
wife
in
two
weeks
. He
moves
on to
discuss
in
detail
his
regiment's
movements
and their
objective
along
with
further
details
of the
Chattanooga
Campaign
. He
writes
that his
health
is
well
but his
spirits
would be
better
if he
could
see
her.
Williamson
then
speaks
of his
regiment's
imminent
movement
and
mail
issues
caused
by
such
. He
closes
by
mentioning
a
couple
of their
friends
and
tells
her not to
send
his
shirts
as they
may
not
get
through
to him.
